Museum of Illustration

Image
I think that the museum was interesting as it had many different illustrations that highlighted its  artwork through books. Advertising, animation, editorial media, fashion, and digital design.  David Curtis mentioned that he went through many different hardships and many different  sketches in order to complete a final on his project with the book covers he was creating. I really  liked the different concepts he had for the book “it” as I was fascinated by all the different ideas  he had with the cover. I liked the idea of the tutorial about how to make a paper boat  representing the start of the book and the main character's brother on how he got into the plot.  The drawing I really liked in the museum was a drawing that a middle schooler made of a  pigeon looking down at the city which amazed me as it looked really good in my opinion. At the  workshop, we had to make sketches for any book cover so I made one that comes from a  game, b...

Color self-portrait

Image
For this project of the color self portrait, it was easier and more simple since all I had to do was  select the elements in the different layers as I used the eyedropper tool to copy the color from  the original picture and color it. I was not going to over complicate myself and restart from  scratch just to have it in color instead of making it in a grey scale. I did not want to make my hair  black as it was boring, but in reality my hair is a dark brown so I tried to make it as accurate as  possible. I made the colors a bit darker due to the lighting in the picture, but at least it is  accurate enough to show the actual face and skin color as the lighting makes it brighter.  In conclusion, doing the color self portrait was way easier as the past project of the grey scale  Portrait saved me the trouble.

Grey-scale self portrait

Image
For this project of the grey-scale self portrait, it was easy to turn it into a grey scale until we had  to use the pen tool to color every single grey on my face. I had difficulty in this assignment  since I am a perfectionist and I wanted to make it as accurate as possible as in the original  picture. It was challenging to do every corner and turn as I had to understand the layers so I  don’t have any white space in between the grey spots, but also the amount of detail I have to do  to my hair, though I skipped that part. What I could have done better is to make it more accurate  and get every corner and sharp edge right, but since it's not, I made it more simplified and not  as perfect as I wanted it to be. Due to the time management, I couldn’t make the improvements  as much as I wanted to as it lacks the details in my hair, but I knew it would be unnecessary and  too time consuming. Although the project of the self-portrait in gre...

Recreating Repetition

Image
For this assignment on recreating repetition, I was confused and had some trouble on how to  make a digital final like how I did with my finals on paper. I used the tools that I am familiar with  and tried my best to recreate it and make it as accurate as possible. Although it doesn’t look the  same, it still gives the same concept and idea of the original repetition assignment. For the first  one, It was a bit easy, but the hardest part in this one was to make half of the shape in which I  used the pen tool for that one. For the second one, this one was the one I had the most trouble  and difficulty with since I had to overlap other layers with different shades of grey in order to give  the look that it is going into a void. It kept having white areas when I used the pen tool which  was annoying so I tried my best on making it even and making squares as I put them at the  back. For the third one, it looked longer as I made the small shapes a...

Analog and Digital Color

 1) What are pixels?  Tiny blocks of a digital image with different colors. 2) How is color viewed in computer monitors? They are viewed using tiny red, blue and green lights. 3) What is the additive color space? It is when different colors are created by adding light. 4) Describe which additive color sliders values in InDesign would you use to make black and white.  The RGB values have to be 255 to be black and for white it all has to be 0. 5) What is subtractive color space? It is when different colors are created by subtracting light. 6) Describe which subtractive color sliders values in InDesign would you use to make black and white.  The CMYK slider percentage has to be 0% to be black and for white its the same, but K has to be 100% 7) What is color calibration? Ensures that the right colors are being shown on the monitor or device. 8) How does the PMS (Pantone Matching System) color system ensure color fidelity? By using color codes to create the color. 9) What...

6 Column Layout on 2 page spread

Image
For the six column layout on a two page spread, it wasn’t a hard project to do since I knew how   to add a place holder text on the page. What was a bit difficult on what I didn't understand was  how to use a master page to delete the first page, but that was easily done as I was taught how  to. After that my peers helped me on figuring out how to make the image surround the text  which was a bit complicated to do until I started to do it a few more times. I decided to do it with  lilies because it is my favorite flower. I learned how to attach an image and how to text wrap it to  make the text go around the image to make it look more clean and neat. There were some gaps  in the text that I had to remove because it looked unclean. I was worried it would delete the  space I have made around the flowers but now it looks somewhat okay. In conclusion, this  assignment was not an easy assignment, but also not a hard one since I under...

Gridded Concert Poster Sketches

Image
For the assignment Gridded Concert Poster Sketches, I broke the grid using some elements on the  background along from the main artist. I added the title of the album along with the dates and prices of the  concert as I put it neatly as possible on the grid. I did this because it helps emphasize the design and make it  catch attention to  the person's eye. I tried to make everything not stay perfectly in line because I didn’t want it  to look boring and plain since I wanted to add some creativity to it. Breaking the grid makes it feel more active and creative so it can add some movement and energy instead of making it look so stiff. I tried to add some  movement to the background or at least add some color when I’m going to make the final design. Putting the artist first and in the middle creates a strong point to the poster for the people to know its importance along  with the person's album title. I broke the grid in order for it to look unique and...
